AI file management is the use of artificial intelligence to sort, rename, search, and route files without you writing rules for each case. Instead of dragging files into folders or building rigid if-this-then-that automations, you describe how you want files organized in plain language and the AI applies that intent across your folders. Sortio is an AI file management tool for Mac, Windows, and Linux that handles intake folders, archives, and ongoing automation in one app.

Yes. Sortio is an AI file organizer that reads file names, metadata, and (when you enable the content toggle) document contents to decide where each file belongs. You write a prompt such as 'sort by client and matter' or 'organize photos by year and event' and Sortio creates the folder structure, renames files to match your template, and moves everything in one pass. Smart Folders then keep new files organized automatically.

Yes! Sortio's free tier includes a one-time AI trial allowance (enough to try Sortio on a real folder), rule-based sorting with up to 5 rules, and up to 3 Spaces. No credit card required, and rule-based sorting is free and unlimited. It's a great way to try Sortio before upgrading.

Yes, Sortio backs up your files before making any changes. You can easily revert to the original organization at any time from within the app.

Every plan includes an AI allowance that covers all AI features: sorting, file indexing in Spaces, and AI rule generation. The free trial includes a generous one-time allowance; Pro includes a monthly allowance measured over your last 30 days of activity; Team plans pool double the Pro allowance per seat. You'll see your usage as a simple percentage in Settings, with a heads-up at 80%. Rule-based sorting never touches your allowance and is always free.

AI features pause; nothing is lost. Your files, history, undo, search of indexed files, and rule-based sorting keep working. On Pro and Team the allowance frees up automatically as older usage ages out of your 30-day window. On the free trial, upgrading to Pro continues right where you left off. You can also connect your own AI key at any time, which is never metered.
