Choose Acousmos if keeping a private, searchable history of your voice and text matters enough to justify a subscription. Choose Spokenly if your priority is ongoing free offline dictation or working across several operating systems. For Mac users, the decisive difference is archive ownership versus a lower-cost local-processing path.

Acousmos is the stronger fit for a Mac user who wants dictation to leave a lasting, searchable record. Spokenly is the stronger fit for someone who mainly wants words entered into applications, with free offline processing and room to move beyond macOS. Both describe local processing, but their payment boundaries differ: Acousmos puts ongoing local-model access in Pro; Spokenly makes local dictation free indefinitely.

Acousmos charges for continued use; Spokenly charges for extras and hosted processing

Acousmos lists Plus at $12.99 per month or $99 per year, and Pro at $17.99 per month or $149 per year. Annual billing is displayed as approximately $8.25 and $12.42 per month respectively, but the annual amounts are the commitments. Paid plans cover up to two Macs. The $0 Pro trial lasts one month, covers one Mac and includes 20,000 managed-cloud words; the page says a subscription is needed when the month or word credit runs out. It requires no signup or card. Acousmos pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

Spokenly lists Free at $0 forever, Local+ at $29 once, and Pro at $8.33 per month billed $99.99 per year. A monthly billing option is shown, but its amount is not listed in the reviewed pricing text. Local+ excludes managed cloud models and hosted AI. Its page also advises Mac buyers seeking Local+ to use the website-distributed app because Mac App Store support was described as a future update. Pro states cancellation at any time and a 14-day refund. Spokenly pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

Spokenly separately offers multiple Pro seats with a permanent 30% discount, but no team total is listed. Our review found that this route sits behind a separate Team link rather than among the primary individual-plan cards. Acousmos's two-Mac allowance should not be treated as evidence of a comparable multi-person team license. Spokenly pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026 · Acousmos pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

Acousmos makes the archive part of the purchase

Our review found that Acousmos consistently connects Mac-wide dictation with a private archive of original voice and text. That changes the buying decision if you expect to revisit spoken material rather than discard it after insertion. Its site also says the local archive remains yours after cancellation. The subscription therefore pays for continued dictation while the retained record has a longer life. Acousmos · Pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

The constraint is ongoing access. Acousmos offers a one-month Pro trial rather than an indefinite free dictation plan. Plus includes managed-cloud dictation, while Pro adds your own provider keys and local models. A buyer who wants both the archive and offline dictation should budget for Pro, rather than assume the cheaper Plus plan covers that combination. Acousmos pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

Our review also found that Acousmos's most concrete usage proof came from its founder's own statistics panel. It did not find an attributable customer outcome alongside those figures. That makes the archive proposition clear, but leaves independent evidence of everyday results thin. Treat the trial as an opportunity to check your own vocabulary, applications and retrieval needs; the founder's figures do not establish your likely speed or time savings. Acousmos.

Spokenly separates free local dictation from paid convenience

Spokenly's reviewed positioning explicitly covers dictation across Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone, with offline local models. For a Mac buyer, that breadth matters when another computer or phone is already part of the workflow. It is less decisive if all your work stays on one Mac. Our review did not establish an equivalent permanent, searchable voice archive, so archive-dependent buyers should resolve that question before choosing it. Spokenly.

Painterly homepage-style scene representing the shared function of Acousmos and Spokenly.

The useful distinction is between processing and convenience. Spokenly's pricing page offers unlimited local dictation without a trial clock. Local+ adds settings sync, recording styles and priority support; Pro adds managed cloud transcription and hosted AI processing. You do not need Local+ simply to keep using local dictation. Using your own cloud keys is also free from Spokenly's side, but the provider charges separately. Spokenly pricing, verified Oct 24, 2026.

Our website review found scattered self-serve help; the reviewed support information did not establish a concrete response-time promise or a clear recovery path for failed transcription. Buyers relying on dictation for daily work should check the relevant troubleshooting material before committing. A paid support entitlement does not, by itself, establish how quickly a problem will be resolved. Spokenly pricing and support findings.

Website speed affects evaluation, not proven dictation speed

Our mobile website lab run measured Acousmos's main content appearing at about 7.9 seconds. Its download action was visible, but reaching the front door involved a substantial wait under those conditions. Privacy and security links were also placed in the footer after a long homepage. Privacy-conscious buyers can find those answers, but the shortest evaluation path does not foreground them. Acousmos.

Spokenly's mobile homepage lab result was faster at about 4.4 seconds, though still slow. Its real-user field result was substantially better at 1.65 seconds. Acousmos had no corresponding field metrics in our review, so these results do not establish a universal real-world speed advantage. They describe the websites, not transcription latency or accuracy inside either application. Spokenly · Acousmos.

Both reviews also identified small mobile navigation targets and contrast failures. Neither website's accessibility score should be read as proof that its desktop dictation interface meets every accessibility need.

Choose around retention, processing and devices

Choose Acousmos when your core requirement is Mac dictation plus a durable, searchable local record. Its subscription is easier to justify when that history is part of your work. Choose Pro if offline models or your own provider keys are essential.

Choose Spokenly when ongoing free offline dictation is the priority, or when your workflow spans Mac and other supported platforms. Its free plan lets you evaluate local recognition without a subscription deadline. Choose Pro when you want managed cloud models and hosted text processing without arranging provider keys.

Important unknowns remain. Our reviews do not establish comparative recognition accuracy, application-level latency, local-model hardware requirements or equivalent archive functionality in Spokenly. Neither product wins those unverified comparisons by default.

SiteList's scores favor Acousmos slightly, but fit decides

SiteList's AI review scores are 82.4/100 for Acousmos and 79.9/100 for Spokenly. These assess the reviewed websites and their decision-support information; they do not establish which application transcribes better. Acousmos stands out for its clear archive proposition, with mobile website speed as a weakness. Spokenly stands out for its free local-processing path and platform breadth, with scattered help and less decisive plan guidance as weaknesses. Neither has verified user reviews yet.

Questions buyers actually ask

Which is better for free offline dictation on Mac?

Spokenly offers unlimited offline dictation free forever. Acousmos includes local models in its one-month Pro trial, then requires Pro for continued offline access. Spokenly is the clearer fit when avoiding an ongoing subscription is the priority. Pricing verified Oct 24, 2026.

Which app keeps a searchable history of voice and text?

Acousmos explicitly offers a private, searchable local archive, and its pricing page says the archive remains after cancellation. Our Spokenly review did not establish an equivalent archive. That is an important unknown if retrieving past dictations is central to your workflow.

Does using your own API keys mean processing stays on the Mac?

No. Your own API keys connect to an external provider, which can charge for usage. Local models are the offline processing option. Acousmos reserves ongoing access to both options for Pro; Spokenly offers both in Free. Pricing verified Oct 24, 2026.

Has SiteList established which app is more accurate?

No. The reviews do not include a comparative transcription benchmark. SiteList's AI review scores assess the websites and available product information. Test your vocabulary and target applications through Acousmos's trial or Spokenly's free plan before choosing.
